Comment: True Story. While traveling to East Lansing from Colorado to visit a sick friend, our Honda Pilot developed a problem with the interior heating system. Its winter time and I did not want to return home without heat! Jason, the Manager, took the vehicle in and eventually determined he was not able to replace the cars Heater Core. A dealership would be better equipped to do this speciality work. He refused to charge us for the time spent to identify the problem which we had hoped would be to simply replace the antifreeze. This was very unexpected and I said I wanted to pay him for his time spent to identify the problem. Again he refused and sent us on our way to the dealership. This is the kind of customer service so rare in todays world. This service center is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Comment: I always hate going to mechanics being a small blonde female. I am new to the area and originally went to GRAF Nissan in Okemos, but after having issues with that mechanic I came here. I originally came due to a slow leak in my tire. In a previous car I also needed my tire patched and the place I went to tried to convince me it couldnt be patched and that I needed to buy four 4WD tires. Here there were no issues at all. The mechanics patched up my tire extremely quickly while I waited, and they were very friendly. They charged me $20 and I was very happy. It has been a couple of weeks and the tire is fine. I didnt realise this place was for car mechanics as well as tires, so I went back to see them for other issues with the car. I will write a separate review for that experience as they told me they are put under a lot of pressure to receive reviews.

Decided on the Okemos Tuffy on the strength of positive reviews and brought my wifes Kia in for a tire rotation and oil change last weekend. Was very happy with how quickly it was serviced and how my wife and I were treated. Might seem like a little thing, and in regard to simple routine maintenance, but my wife will be bringing her car back in for regular servicing, and for new tires in 2024. My Honda Civics power steering went out suddenly and Tuffy was the closest shop that I could take my car too, and Im so glad I did! Ted, who was operating the front desk, was extremely kind and informative. He walked me through what he thought the potential problems could be, a timeline for when it would get checked out, and overall made me feel better. Jason was the mechanic who actually checked my car out, and he kept me updated throughout the day even as it was getting checked out. Unfortunately this was not a fix that Tuffy could handle, but they explained the issue to me thoroughly and recommended a place for me to go which does these sorts of repairs. If you are looking for an honest and trustworthy place to get your car checked out with mechanics and workers that will thoroughly explain what is going on, then make sure you go to this shop.

Comment: My husband installed front sway bar links on our granddaughters car. After her two-hour drive home to Lansing (MSU student), she heard a rattle and called us. We suspected that one of the nuts had come loose. Having no tools, she drove to her boyfriends fathers house, and one of the nuts actually was loose and he re-tightened it again. On the way back to Lansing it started rattling again. The next morning we called Tuffy for help and asked if they could re-tighten the nuts and that we would pay for it. They arranged that she could come in after school and while she waited they tighten the nut and used lock-tight to make sure they dont loosen up again and because she is a returning customer they did it free of charge. After the inspection, Ted told me that there was nothing wrong that I couldnt hold off on (leaving shortly for 9 months so didnt want to spend money on this if I didnt have too). He even didnt charge me for the inspection as a military discount.I will always bring my vehicle to this tuffy location anytime I need something done and would recommend anyone to bring their vehicle here as well. They will be fair and will not try to oversell you.

Comment: I had an accident this weekend and was concerned about a faulty wheel bearing. Unfortunately, there are not really any services open on a Saturday evening and Sunday. I really needed to travel as I was stuck in the Lansing area needing to get back on the road before Monday. Ted somehow able to get me in and within a few hours had been able to look at my car. I had a sudden problem with my car and was in the area so I reluctantly stopped in to see if someone would at least talk with me and give me an idea of when during the week they might look at it. (He’s a pessimist).I take it to that place with a name that reminds you of some miserly old king that hoards gold in a fable, they lift it and show me a rotted “flex pipe”. Bad news is, I will need to drop $2000 for a new exhaust system because they cannot repair it. (They’re a business).So somewhat dejected I decide to hit Youtube, hard. Who doesn’t like DIY, right? So I order a box-load of hard wares such as goops and assorted clamps… some wire-brush drill attachments… only to find that my ramps are too steep to use with my SRX.Starting to drift toward deep depression, I call Tyler at Tuffy in East Lansing. I bring my car in bright and early on Saturday morning. Tyler and the mech show me the now familiar rotted flex section of my front SRX exhaust… but instead of making a beeline for my meager retirement funds, Tyler from Tuffy tells me they will make it good as new for less than $300. (They’re an optimistic, old-fashioned honest can-do business)Yesss!!! Now that’s the ballpark daddy likes to play in!Two hours of entertaining banter with Tyler and well less than $300 later, Tyler and Tuffy make good on their promise. Comment: Greg and his team performed a pre-inspection service for us yesterday on a potential used truck we were thinking about purchasing. They found multiple things wrong with it we would have never known about without their help. Needless to say, we did not purchase the vehicle, and figure the guys at this Tuffy saved us thousands of dollars in future repairs and headaches!Having dealt directly with Greg on a couple of issues with our other vehicles in the past, I can tell you he treated us like we were one of his family every time. Comment: I had them look at my car for a suspicious noise and was very pleasantly surprised to be told that it was a minor issue and didnt need a costly repair. When I asked how much, Greg told me he wasnt going to charge me anything, even after I insisted on paying something, he refused to take my money. I wish there were more people like Greg in auto repair. Thank you!

Comment: Went in for brake and wheel noise and had a fantastic experience! Talked to Greg and he was super polite and knowledgeable. Turnaround time was very fast, same day! The brake and bearing noises I took my car in for are totally gone and I have no dash lights on. Highly recommend these guys for anyone in the area who needs service on their car!

Comment: I have used their services since 2005. When I compare their prices and quality to the larger OEM shops, they have always come out better and more reasonable. They helped me keep a 2000 Impala going to 384,000 miles and a 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx going to 404,000. They are also good at providing options and ranking repairs to accommodate our budget.

Comment: Jeff got me into the shop very quickly and hoisted my ride up on the lift within minutes. I brought a performance exhaust in for my BMW, Jeff and the guys were quick to business and got my new exhaust done in less than 1 hour. Wow does it sound great! Comment: Several months ago I switched my car mechanic service to Tuffy. I did so because it is nearby as I assumed all car shops to be about the same. About an hour ago I took my car in for a diagnose. Jeff the manager took my complaint. No wait, no hassle. I got an immediate, accurate assessment of the problem. He gives all customers such immediate and accurate attention. Then as I thought back I realized how unusual that is. Over the couple of years I have visited this Okemos Tuffy shop I get the same high quality of service, expert mechanics and reasonable prices! In all my years of car service I have never seen this such consistency before. As I was about to leave the shop today I asked if I could write a review (he did not ask me). As long as Jeff is at Tuffy they have my business! Anyone who visits I will guarantee youll do the same

Comment: I have been going here since 1985. Completely trust them. They call during repair to update on problems they may find. If it is a simple oil change or none of your windows work they take care of you in a very respectful manner. And they have the best looking floors in the area!

Comment: I am so impressed with the kindness and professionalism of the owner and staff at Tuffy in East Lansing. From the moment I walked into the building and was greeted by the owner, I knew this business was customer oriented and special. I told Jim I needed my car as soon as possible because I have serious medical problems and needed transportation to and from the hospital. They stayed two hours past the time they were supposed to close in order to get my car fixed right away. What other business would do that for you? They did a fabulous job diagnosing and fixing my car at a very fair price. I am so grateful that they were there to help. I will take my car there again and will recommend them to everyone. Comment: I brought my car in to be checked out because something was draining my battery. They werent able to diagnose the issue, so I had to take it to the dealership. Since they couldnt figure out what it was they didnt charge me the inspection fee. Definitely my first call next my car needs something! Thanks for great service Tuffy!

Comment: Has to be some of the best service I have ever received as it relates to my jeep. The employees were kind, as well as understanding of my needs. They were also able to correct the problems with my brakes, which were caused by another garage, and did so in less than a day. The owner, as well as the employees, know how important transportation is nowadays for students such as myself. I will surely suggest that all of my friends go to this shop and would recommend that any college students in the area do the same if they want efficient and effective service from a great group of employees.

Comment: I brought my car in to Tuffy to have an engine light, or code looked into for my car. It had been stored 7 months, and when I drove it for the first time, a light came on. When I took it into Tuffy, the technicians were very helpful. They did a road test, checked out the engine light, and told me that the light was probably a light on due to the car being parked for a very long time. They made it so the problem seemed something minor, and Ive been driving this car successfully with no issues for 2 months! They were very helpful, and did a vehicle inspection for me, and I brought my car to them again when it needed an oil change. I couldnt be happier with the level of customer service that I received there! I will be a repeat customer time and time again.

Comment: Without a doubt, one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. I suddenly came upon some car troubles as I was driving less than a mile down the road, and was in rather difficult situation. But the employees at Tuffy were so helpful and accommodating, and truly went well beyond what was expected of them, and I am very grateful.I will definitely take my car there again with any future issues.
