Comment: We cant say enough about the quality of service. When we have car issues, we always go here. Our most recent visit affirmed why. Our sons RAM truck was having an issue. They diagnosed the problem, AND rather than give us a quote for the repair, South Street Auto Care (SSAC) contacted the dealer to verify that it was covered under warranty. It was. SSAC could have easily profited from our not being aware. Instead, they shared the warranty information with us, and saved our young son a lot of money. Good people.

Comment: After several years of experience with South Street Auto, it is still impressive in every way one could wish in an auto maintenance/ mechanical repair service. That includes working with you on what procedure is essential at the time.If something can safely wait, they will tell you. If they say it is necessary, you can feel sure it is. For example, I brought the car in for its oil change. During general inspection, a few issues showed up. The car is nearing the point when I should, reluctantly, change it, before having to put a lot more money into it. S. St. Auto understands such dilemmas. They explained which problem had to be dealt with now for safety, and two that could be postponed for now, and a warning sign to watch out for if I chose to wait.It is really a very busy place ( not surprising) but they are good about updating you if things get slow. And of course their loaner cars are a huge bonus, even if not always immediately available.Update:Jan. 25,2024I took the car ( still the same one)in last week for battery & oil change, and, it turned out, a postponed repair become necessary for safety reasons .It took a couple of days to get a loaner, car in shop Wed.-Mon., but a very busy time with the bitter cold spell.As my first review is I think, over a year old, I am updating to say I still agree with everything I said. Definitely the place to go.

Comment: It may have been several years ago but I brought them my 2002 volkswagen jetta with a botched sub frame job from another shop they were super friendly reasonable on the price set me up in a loaner while they did the work and I could not have been more pleased. After all these years I still send people your way and will be in with my buddy and his car to see you guys again soon! As expected you guys knocked it out of the park on my buddys Honda accord went as far as to get a hard to find camshaft for it you guys rock!!!!

Comment: Great experience. My older car that Im not super interested in replacing right now had a list of problems and they ranked them in terms of priority for safety + integrity of the car. My coolant housing and thermometer were totally ruined from being put together wrong at a previous shop (which I used to like but the owner retired and sold to apparent morons) so my car was leaking a LOT of coolant - they got it all taken care of. Got new tie rods too. Took the car for a roadtrip the day after the repairs and it ran wonderfully. Guys stayed 20 minutes past closing time to get it done on a Friday, I really appreciated that + the loaner car. Ill be back for an oil change in a couple months and probably get a few smaller things fixed too.

It was losing oil I just bought it used but of course I wasnt expecting to have to fix something in the motor so soon so you can imagine my emotions at the time were not good. South Street Auto care ask me what was wrong with the car and when I told them with my emotion they listened very patiently they told me not to worry theyll get it all checked out and get back to me I dropped it off in the evening before they closed on Monday before Thanksgiving. Tuesday morning they called me before 9:00 a.m. to let me know they had already seen what was wrong, to me the price was reasonable with everything that needed to be done so reasonable I did not feel taken advantage of at all. They told me they would start working on the car and try to get it done ASAP did i mention it was right before Thanksgiving 🥺 but I told them please dont rush. the parts came in late Tuesday so they wasnt able to get started on my car until Wednesday. I know this because they kept me updated with every step. I was able to pick up my car that Wednesday evening. because of what needed to be fixed it was completely understandable. to my surprise when I went to pick up my car it came with a wonderful warranty and roadside assistance I was taking a trip to Tennessee the following week so the comfort and the security that they gave me was priceless. I would highly recommend South Street auto care for your car.

Todd checked in with me on every repair and gave me options while diagnosing some problems that could have gotten way worse in a short period of time. They did exactly as I asked with the options available and saved me a lot of money in the long wrong. South Street Auto has my business everytime in Oakland County. However my keychain on my keys was broken, my driver window was left cracked open and my passenger window was wide open, my car was also parked with the rear bumper completely inside of the bush that was behind it. They are always the most skillful, resonably priced and most time efficient business for auto repair. Today they worked a miracle. Our Hybrid Camry, currently our only car would not start and woud not hold a battery charge. South Street moved heaven and earth to locate a specialized battery, pick it up and got it installed within one day. They knew that we only had the one car, and expedited the repair. Comment: I originally called South Street to see if they worked on VW/TDIs and if they could give a second opinion about an oil leak that was diagnosed at the dealer. Staff took the time to answer my questions on the phone and offered to have bring my car in a couple days later. Ended up making an online appointment 2 weeks later and called the day before asking if it was possible to still get a loaner and were great about saying if I come the night before my scheduled appointment I could get one. They werent able to get it in for the original date but called early afternoon and gave plenty of notice they were working on another project that was running behind and wouldnt be until the next day I would get a diagnosis Called the next day and gave me a detailed estimate for the repair and after giving me the estimate told me I needed a night to think it over and figure out what I wanted to do. They didnt pressure or harass me about making a quick decision, pulled the trigger and throughout the repair called to give updates when the parts arrived and ETA for when it would be finished. I will be bringing my car here for more oil changes and repairs in the future, have definitely earned my business.

Customer service is very, very good and their mechanics always get to the heart of the problem. None of that, I get the car back and the same problem exists. They saved me hundreds on my F150 by correctly diagnosing a coolant leak which the Ford garage misdiagnosed and I fortunately refused the Ford recommended repair. They also had the expertise and equipment to fix a significant transmission issue by following a Technical Service Bulletin instead of pushing a rebuild. Comment: Brought our family vehicle in to have the transmission looked at. Made it clear that we did not want to replace transmission as the vehicle was not worth enough to us (or the bank for that matter). We were assured that their techs were very familiar with our make and model and had recently resolved similar issues. We were told that the issue was a component of the transmission and could be replaced for $1600. They were even kind enough to let us use a loaner vehicle while they worked on it. (Which almost warrants another star, but no) Two days after repairs check engine light came on and same issue resurfaced. We brought the car back and, after a lengthy (bs) explanation we were told that the transmission needed to be replaced, we were even told that the component that was originally replaced would be included in a new transmission. After much pleeding they offered to refund the cost of the part ($560) only if we had them install a new transmission for $5000. We said no thanks, had a friend look at the car and he was able (without any info from us) to see from the computer codes that the gear ratios were off and the transmission would need to be replaced, he said it would cost about $3000 to replace transmission, showed me cost of new trans at $1700. Well never get our $1600 back (which we would have used for a dp on a new vehicle) but we wont be giving South Street Auto any more business, Id advise others to do the same. EDIT: Thanks for the reply, I know most of the people @ South Street and wish them nothing but the best. I wrote this review at a time when I was very upset and frustrated. I have since purchased a new vehicle, with a warranty. Modern vehicles are complex machines and its easy to understand how something could be misdiagnosed, wish it hadnt cost so much and wish that SS would have been more willing to refund some of the labor costs. But I realize too that they pay a premium for quality mechanics and their time cannot be refunded.

I was impressed right away when their hold music repeated the mission and core values of the office- it was a refreshing reminder that this would be different than other service shops. I had a 10:15 appointment and my oil change and tire rotation were completed quickly and efficiently while I waited. Best of all- it was $30 cheaper than my last oil change place charged! Their waiting room was clean and inviting and it’s clear their office staff really likes each other and gets along well. Comment: This was the first time using South Street Auto Care. I was very happy with the entire experience. Karly helped me and everybody was friendly from the drop off, update calls and pick up. I brought the car in because of a check engine light and some other routine maintenance. When they checked out the car the check engine light wasn’t on any longer and they said the code for the error was due to a misfire. They checked my service records to see when the plugs were replaced and did an inspection of the car and didn’t feel they needed to charge me for addiction tests and completed the remaining maintenance. My poor baby is getting up there in age and mileage, and shes starting to need stuff replaced. After my check engine light came on, I initially took it to the dealership on Rochester Road since Ive worked with them before. After being told the repairs were going to be $1300, I came here to get them done since I find that to be upsurd. (please note, stealership is good for oil changes, and the dudes that work there, as everyone knows, are heartless and obviously gouge you. Im no dummy.)I spent a lot of time speaking to Karly and she was awesome to work with. I mean, the whole staff here is awesome, but she was my main point of contact. She ran some diagnostics on the car (way quicker than the dealership, obviously) and confirmed what needed to be fixed to get the car back out on the road, and what could wait. It lowered my price down to $887, beating the dealership by about $450. (thats not a typo.)Besides the pricing, the staff here is WAY better, and I get a lot more bang for my buck. Free rentals, way nicer staff, and an all around easier experience. I am coming back here for more service in the future, as I was beyond pleased with my experience. I wish more shops ran like this, and it makes the process way less painful.I cannot thank South Street enough for everything. The staff was courteous and responsive, and provided clear break down of needed repairs based on priority (e.g. this needs to be done, this could wait). During the repair process all costs were accurate and they kept giving me timely feedback as to the status and when my vehicle would be ready. Upon pick-up they detailed the extras I was entitled to, like reduce price on oil changes and emergency road side service.From start to finish South Street did a great job, I will definitely go back for my future repair needs.

My vehicle is approaching the 80k mile mark and requiring more attention than ever, so Ive had several occasions to work with the South Street team since referral by a friend last year. I took it to South Street Auto Care and they spent a lot of time and effort in researching, finding the right parts, and applying them correctly. The alignment is WAY better and my 2014 Grand Cherokee is running great!

Comment: Man what can I say.. Brett is an awesome dude and was extremely accommodating, my poor old Honda CRV was given the death sentance having my timing belt go. Comment: I’ve been coming to South Street a few years now and have had a variety of work done on my vehicle from oil changes/tire rotation to new brakes and I’ll never go anywhere else. The work is always efficient and precise. Comment: I have not personally had my car worked on here but Ive gone twice with someone who has and both times, the experience was phenomenal. Everyone is so kind, the wait to get a quote wasnt long, and we were back on the road quickly. I love talking to them while we wait and they have been so understanding to my boyfriends financial situation over the years. They work with him even when he can only afford to pay limited amount and work well within small budgets. That being said, they care about safety as well and wont cut corners to endanger that. If a quote is high, its because the repairs are absolutely needed and doing less would compromise the vechicle. Trust in them that they are going to recommend what is needed. They are professionals.I will definitely be taking my car here next time it has any troubles, they are good, honest people. Please consider them when your car has issues, they always have the customer in mind.

Their service advisors are very friendly and are very understanding and patient with customers.. they definitely make the experience completely satisfactory. They offer loaner cars, which is really great. I wasnt old enough until very recently to use a loaner car and they would have someone drive me to and from work. Their prices are very comparable. One of my vehicles is used strictly for work and is in the shop every 3-4 months for a routine maintenance. I have a number of shops that I can pick from, but I always go to South Street Auto. Ive never had an issue with feeling like a repair wasnt done or was done incorrectly. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for your vehicle!

Comment: I absolutely love this place. They are so welcoming. They give passion in the work that they do. I had a problem with my van. I called up there the night before. They were getting ready to close. Talked to one of the guys. They didnt rush me off the phone at all. They made sure I hung up feeling comfortable. I brought my van to them the next day. I had my two youngest children with me. They didnt have a loaner car available. So they started working on my van right away. My kids were noisy but the employees didnt mind. Instead they were talking to them. One of the guys had a conversation with both my kids. I kept apologizing for the disruptive behavior, but they didnt seem to mind at all. I waited maybe 25 min in the lobby with both kids. They brought my vehicle out 100% fixed. I will never go to another auto shop. These guys are stuck with me for life. Comment: In my experience, here youll find the best customer care and high quality service. The staff is friendly and answers to your questions explaining everything.Its not cheap, but its totally worth the money. If you schedule an appointment, they can reserve a loan car for you (usually old and not super clean, but hey, its free so I wont complain about that at all!!) Once they didnt have a car available, so they rented one (at no cost for me for the first day) then I returned the car in the evening and took one of theirs for the next day. Awesome!Recently, I needed to change the turn signal lens. Usually its an expensive thing, you can be charged a lot because this accessory parts are overpriced. But they found a way to have the parts for less (they told me how they did it, but I dont remember right now....) and I spent around $30.Ill come back here for sure.

Comment: I paid $350 to have an overall vehicle inspection done on my car and to have an oil change and the tires rotated and to look at the brakes. I was okay with that accept then I left the car to sit for 2 months while I went to Florida I got back and started smelling gas and took it back to have it looked at they ended up telling me I needed another $1,300 in repair. When I asked what they did for the 350 as far as the inspection on my car I was advised it was a basic 29 point inspection. What the heck did I pay $350 for. And then after having not driven the car one would think that they would be able to come home and not have anything wrong only to take it in and then they tell you you need another $1,200 worth of service. I worked in the Auto industry for almost 30 years in customer satisfaction and although I asked for some compensation for the money already paid on my first visit and their failure to find any additional problems at that time they refused. I simply cannot give them any better than a one rating as a customer service specialist in dealing with dealerships that have customer service ratings that are low I for one would have insisted the dealership give some compensation to the customer. Apparently this company doesnt feel thats important. Will probably never returned them again.

Theyve never made a mistake or over charged, tried to offer services I didnt need or anything like that.Recently theyve completely renovated and coming here is awesome. Ive used their free loaner cars twice now and never had an issue. You sign some papers, exchange keys and go on with your day without the inconvenience of not having your car. All you do is return it with the same amount of gas you used. You even get FREE roadside assistance for a year just for being a customer! (Whaaaat?!)I drive from a town over and pass dozens of other shops, but this will always be my place. Theyre fast, honest, professional, cool guys at this place. I seriously cannot recommend them enough!

Comment: The service was quick and the staff was very friendly. When trying to decide between sticking with standard oil or switching to synthetic, they were able to tell me every detail about the differences between the two types of oil and the benefits of choosing one vs the other based on the way that I drive my car day to day. The pricing is standard, but the staff and the service were leagues better than all other establishments that Ive been to, so I absolutely recommend this place!

Instead of a hallway aside from the shop, the aesthetics now spoke of clean/neat attention to detail; and they carried that over to my vehicle too. I gave the guys my list of things that needed repair and they pointed out that I had an item under warranty still from a previous visit. I was so impressed with their integrity and very glad for the effort to save me some cash. I just had my car in there for about a week with some extensive work needed and Mike (service attendant) was very informative and nice to speak with throughout the process. When I picked my car up there was tons of snow on it and the mechanic who worked on my car came out and took my snow scraper from me and brushed my entire car off for me. Comment: My (manual) Cobalt was having strange jerking issues for about a year and a half before I took it in here. I had tried numerous fixes found online, advice from mechanic friends, and even took it into two shops that couldnt replicate the issue. I was about to start a new job that I needed reliable transportation for and I was incredibly frustrated. I finally decided to try one more shop before the dealer and Im glad I did. I walked in midday and we had a short chat before they told me that they had an idea and they would get back to me that evening. I was skeptical but they kept their promise. I got a call that night with the results of the diagnostic testing and a breakdown of everything that would need to be fixed. The next day, I got a call saying my car was done and I could come pick it up. My car was in and out in less than 24 hours, which really made me feel dumb I had waited so long to take it in here but SO GLAD I took it where I did.Because I am a student, I was worried about the cost. When they called for me to pick up my car they mentioned they didnt end up needing to fix something they thought they would (software update), so the cost went down significantly. I thought this was very honorable of them, they couldve easily charged me for it and I wouldnt have ever known. I thought the pricing was very fair; obviously its cheaper to do it yourself but honestly the kind of work I needed done was completely worth paying for labor. I wanted quality work for a fair price, and I certainly got it. As long as I am in the Metro area, I will be coming here for all my car issues.

Comment: Kirk, Joel, and the rest of the team there were awesome when my wife and I were in the process of buying a used minivan. We took it in for an inspection, and they did a really thorough job checking everything out and advised us that it was a great purchase, and some things that needed to be done on it eventually. We bought the van and brought it back in for a brake job, and to get another thing fixed they had initially recommended, and when Joel called to give us a quote on the brake job, he mentioned the other thing (something with the flex pip) really didnt need to be fixed right away if we didnt want to, that is was just a cosmetic issue. I thought that was really respectable as other repair shops wouldve led me to believe it had to be fixed just to get the extra money out of me. These guys were just super friendly and honest throughout the whole process and my wife and I couldnt be more thankful and appreciative. Another thing worthy of noting is that when my wife went in to pick up the van from the inspection, there was another guy in there who was a previous customer who brought in bagels for the whole crew there to show his appreciation for whatever it was they did for him. Also, when I went in to drop the van off for the brake job, in the waiting room was an elderly lady who was waiting to hear the word on an issue with her cars wheels (or something). The repair tech came out, and knelt down on her level and just really nicely explained what the problem was, and offered to fix it for free. She seemed so appreciative and was like well I guess Ill just have to bake you all more cookies then!. That stuff really says a lot about the people you are trusting to be honest with you about the repairs on your vehicle. I cant recommend this place more highly. Kirk also owns another location in Livonia called Kirks Auto Care, and from what Ive read in the reviews of that location and heard from friends is that the experience is the same as North Hill.. just super friendly and honest.
