Comment: The heat went out in my wife’s 2017 equinox. After looking around in the area and seeing the good reviews, I decided to bring it to Northern Auto Repairs. Rodney checked it in for me, and I got an update to a link that same day explaining what needed to be repaired as well as other routine maintenance that should be performed. Initial inspection of the problem including full car inspection was $150. They were not pushy on any of the other repairs, and explained exactly what needed to be fixed for the heat. Unfortunately, the blend door itself had broken and the dash had to be removed to replace. For such a large job it was completed in under a week including over a holiday weekend. When I went to pick it up, Rodney showed me what parts they had changed and explained what had broken. Parts and labor included a 24 month warranty. I was very satisfied with Northern Auto Repairs, and will be returning in the future if needed.

Comment: Well, I have a custom welded exhaust. This is where my conundrum starts so keep that in mind. My college sons car broke down when he came home for Christmas. I had recommendations to use Northern so I had the car towed there. They were able to look at the car next day! Northern diagnosed the problem as a plugged catalytic converter. I was not too sure. This was confirmed by the custom muffler shop that I took it too after Northern so they were correct in the diagnosis. It also had a code for an EVAP leak which was not the main problem. Northern could have fixed it, but since they are not a muffler shop and don’t do custom welding, they would have to cut out the entire exhaust system and replace it from the exhaust manifolds back. Basically clamp all 13 parts back together just as it would come from the factory. The custom muffler shop that I took it to you was able to cut out the catalytic converter and weld in a new one. More of a bush fix, but it’s an old car for a broke college kid. You college people know what it was like. You just needed a beater with a heater. It just has to get him through the next 3 years of College. Rodney did not charge me for their time invested which was very nice. I left Northern with confidence that they take car repairs seriously and will do a great job. I’ll try them again.

Service technicians were thorough in their diagnostics and repairs. It was a huge expense for me but Rodney assured me that my car was worth the repairs, and they were all necessary. I appreciated the pictures and clear explanations of what needed to be repaired.They even did a little removal of what was left of my undercarriage cover that I had cut off after it became unattached. Granted many people have not seen that level of service in their lifetime, but it was refreshing for me to see old school service and new technological advancement at its best working on my behalf to keep my vehicle safe for my family. They provide the facts with a digital log and recommendations, you make the decision. They provide a full disclosure of safety and drive ability issues in one comprehensive report. First, our car’s power steering went out and they helped get it to the shop, fixed and returned to us within a few days. It would have taken weeks at a dealer. Then today we had an unfortunate situation in our family and in the midst of that the battery died in our car. They got it in right away, replaced the battery, and went above and beyond to transport me back home as well as the vehicle once it was ready. The experience I had at this shop working with Rodney and his team, was the first time Ive seen such a established business integrate with technology to give the best customer service experience.I was given a link to status updates at all steps of the process sent to my phone which made it super easy to monitor how long and when I can expect my car to be done. There was an addtional link sent with a full inspection that had a very detailed look on all aspects of the vehicle and gave accurate recommendations for what was needed as critical and upcoming for the car to stay in working order.The initial estimate was lower than the final cost, however Rodeny not only called and explained specifically what was needed he also sent photos and specific part numbers that were ordered. I was even able to price check the cost of parts and average cost of labor needed online for the wok provided and it was right on par with the industry expectation.Id recommend anyone to come to this shop for work on their vehicle. Truthfully one of the most honest and best places Ive been to. Especially when it comes to customer service, definitely exceeded all expectations Ive had. Thank you so much for making a potentially nightmare of a situation as painless as it could be.

Replaced my suspension system and fixed a radiator leak. Less than a month later, I had to take it back in for overheating and it turned out to be an issue with the replacement part (which was the newest recommended part) and they took care of it free of charge! And then, my radiator dash light came on again awhile after, and it was a mystery! Scott did a bunch of tests on it and figured it out finally (an air pocket in the cooling system! 😱). Comment: Ive been going to Northern for years. Originally, it was to help my father drop off cars for repair. Now, more than 30 years later, Im still taking my own cars to Northern. I feel theyve been honest with me regarding what my vehicles need, and have helped me keep my older vehicles running. I also appreciate that they follow up on the repairs, checking to see if everything seems to be okay. Most recently, the brake light came on in my van. Turns out the brakes needed quite a bit of work... rather upsetting, since Id had a dealership check out the brakes about 1 year earlier. But, since the brakes still didnt feel right after the dealership charged me quite a bit to fix them, I really wasnt convinced they did anything useful. Now, after Northern fixed the brakes, the vans braking feels like it should. Very definitely a huge improvement. And, before doing any work, they sent me pictures of the issues, where I could clearly see that the work was needed for the brakes and for the worn serpentine belt. I take my family on vacations in this old van -- it is important to me that it be kept safe, and I believe Northern has helped a lot in that respect!Update 1/13/23: It was another major repair on the 18 year old van, but Northern has helped me keep it running! They do a great job. I also had an issue where my sister-in-law and her family will be visiting and will need to use the van. Northern helped me out a lot by getting it fixed before they arrive! Unfortunately, there are still a lot of 18 year old original parts on the van, so I am seriously wondering if it is time to retire the old beast, but it is a great vehicle for my family, and Northern has been able to keep it going. Comment: I would recommend this place over and over again! I dropped my car off (for some exhaust issues) on a Thursday afternoon and by Friday mid-morning I had an update from Rodney. They had performed a complete vehicle inspection, and provided me the list (with photos) and recommended action for each item. Most of the items were regular maintenance items which I personally appreciated having brought to my attention since routine oil changes are the farthest I usually go to keep an eye on those kinds of things. So I went to a Ford dealership in Royal Oak Michigan, but they couldnt get to my problem for 3-days, so they were good enough to recommend Northern Auto Repairs to me, which was within one block of the dealership. When I got to Northern and described my situation they were just as busy as the dealership, but they had a mechanic take a look at the after market gas cap and said they could squeeze me into their schedule and my problem would be taken care of within 2-hours. But last week I had to tow my vehicle in because the lower control arm and axle shaft broke on one of my wheels. Comment: I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze. I brought it in due to my antifreeze leaking and check engine light coming on and off. I received a very detailed message and pictures and video of the leak. They also brought other leaks to my attention that I didnt know about. I have been to many many other mechanics before and northern auto was the first place I felt like I didnt get ripped off or forced to get something that didnt need to get fixed. I asked about needing a possible tuneup and after speaking to Rodney he told me I can hold off its not not something that needs to be done any other place would have told me to do it to make extra money. I also talked to Rodney about the oil that I should be using and they are by far the cheapest for semisynthetic oil for my vehicle. I am a female and its very hard finding a trustworthy mechanic and after coming here for the first time I will go no where else. Ive had my car since 2017 with 27000 miles on it it now has close to 100000 thousand miles on it. After they fixed everything they recommend my car drove better then me driving it off a certified car lot. The quote I received was much higher then I anticipated it being but Rodney was able to work with me and cut costs as much as he could. If I could give 10 stars I would. I would highly recommend trying this mechanic shop and ask for Rodney. The invoice is thee most detailed invoice of any mechanic shop they really take the time to explain everything in detail. Each job is outlined with labor and parts cost. They also have a LABOR AND PARTS warranty 24 months/24,000 miles. Its very much appreciated. Thank you.

I usually keep my cars for 10 - 12 years & with Northern taking care of my scheduled maintenance & repairs I have never been stranded with a car that wouldn’t run.

Comment: We have been going to Northern Auto Repair for years and always get great service, advice and detailed answers to all of our questions. The work is always topnotch and the extras - like the Car Care Club, newsletters, cookie and vacuuming - make the experience that much better. I really appreciate the Digital Inspection pictures and details that are sent to my phone prior to any work being done. This makes all of the work transparent and gives me peace of mind about the overall health of my van. I always highly recommend Northern Auto to everyone I know.

Comment: Made a life long customer out of me! I have a Lincoln that was in some need for some front end work, I work at a Ford Dealership and our service department was to backed up to take me in so I did a quick search and found Northern. I was blown away by how quickly they were able to handle the amount of work that I needed done! The follow up through the entire process was FIRST CLASS! I will definitely recommend them to everyone that I know in need of any auto repairs! If your looking for your “guy” as far as repairs go look no further! The owners are so nice and take the extra step to make sure that you are happy with everything as well as the service writers! Comment: Ive been bringing my car to Northern since moving to Berkley five years ago and have always received good service. I especially appreciated that the folks here were very willing to work with me on honoring a warranty for a part that failed and had to be replaced by another shop. At the other shop I felt as though they just wanted to get me out the door as quickly as possible, whereas Northern takes the time to address my concerns. Plus, as a special touch, they always leave a delicious cookie for you in your vehicle when you pick it up!

Comment: The folks at Northern Auto Repair have provided the best service to keep my older car running smoothly for over two years now. Each required service is explained fully. I feel comfortable leaving my vehicle in their care and I definitely participate in the car care club. Their monthly newsletter is loaded with interesting, informational and light-hearted articles. Each visit is a pleasant experience.

Comment: Im so grateful I discovered Northern Auto. They have consistently gone above and beyond to provide me and my car the highest level of service Ive ever experienced. There just isnt enough space for me to elaborate on all the ways they have made getting repairs completed easier. They explain in detail what needs to be done, and never talk down to me like so many other places have in the past. I will never take my car any place else. I cant recommend them highly enough!

Comment: I took my car to Northern Auto Repairs for the first time about a month ago and will be going back for all of my future repairs! They were incredibly friendly and quick, and even provided my uber ride for me to get home during the repair. I also love that they wash the windshield, vacuum the front of the car, and leave a cookie on the passenger seat when your car is ready. Excellent quality and service! Ill definitely be going back!
