The tech Brandon fixed me up, explained what was wrong and what he was going to do to fix it. I was in a real bind and they got me in and repaired much cheaper than I anticipated. Definitely an honest, full service shop that you can trust.

The most impressive thing is the diagnostic software they use that includes the photos they take to show damage or wear. Comment: I have a class C motorhome that had evidence of mice chewing on wires, leading to the engine light turning on and other issues. Being unsure as to the extent of damage they caused, I took it to Mazurs as there arent many places in the area that will service a class C. They did an extremely thorough inspection of the engine, finding several other chewed wires I had missed, and communicating everything via text messages w/photos and a very nice quote system. Jason and Rick got my right in and said he would have them put it on a hoist but suspected it would be just a 15 minute fix and I’d be on my way. Sure enough, 15 mins passed and Jason handed me my keys and said to come back if I ever needed service again. No charge at all for the service. They diagnosed it and found a leak in the condenser that was causing it and replaced it the next day. had it back before heading out of town for July 4th camping! Great Service. I even received a list of other issues I should address or have them do with quotes. Later the next day I had an issue with my trailers hitch, a bolt was stubborn and i Couldnt get it off to adjust it to the proper height, they popped it off no problem for me and then i was on my way! Great service and quick responses. Will use again.

Comment: These guys rock I go to them for oil changes 8000 mile full synthetic What is awesome is that do a comprehensive inspection of your vehicle every time with pictures & videos. I have 2020 Sonic 34,400 miles on it they found a engine tick & red dye coming from the A/C compressor this resulted in a trip to the dealership for warranty work after pulling the codes there were over 52 misfires on cylinder 1 & over 40 on cylinder 4 that needed to be fixed & the AC compressor had to be replaced the bumper to bumper warranty expires at 36K miles but for their attention to detail & the complete inspection I would have been on the hook for these costs I cannot recommend enough Best in class service

They said it was oil sensor or the oil pump. Called several.places no one had time to look at it even though we said we were from out of town. Called Mezurs and they had no problem with us coming in to have them look at it. Found out it wasnt either of the diagnoses we got from Reillys we were actually low on oil. Mezurs did an oil change and got us back on the road. If you are from out of town and need repairs go to these guys. Awesome work. Thank you! Great staff.

Comment: I found the Howell Total Automotive about five years ago when I had an engine problem with my 2005 Toyota Sienna the Toyota certified dealer could not properly diagnose or fix. I have been servicing all of my family autos here ever since. What has made Total stand out after decades of getting my vehicles serviced everywhere from the small independents to the tire and muffler chains to the dealerships is the level of respect they show for my very valuable time.First, the customer-facing staff is extraordinarily competent. Brett knows his stuff and is able to explain the root cause of my problems. He always gets right to the issue, offering the proper solutions without overselling. I have never received a going-through-the-motions (simply throwing a bunch of new parts at a problem without understanding to fundamental problem). In the past year I have needed major repairs on two of my three family vehicles. For both, Total staff recommended a stepwise option that offered a less expensive fix along with the full expensive option. In both cases, I chose the former, only once needing to progress to the latter when it became unavoidable.Second, use of the free loaner car while my car is in service makes for maximum convenience. When I call ahead for a reservation, the loaner is always waiting for me, started, warm and clean at the front entrance. Sometimes I drive in without reservation and am still able to take out a loaner car. The time this saves my family and me is invaluable.Third, Total’s staff provides solutions - they solve my vehicles’ problems with quality work and excellent customer service. Following major repairs, I have on occasion had the engine light go back on and returned my car/van to Total. In all cases they have followed up with tracking down the problem and fixing to my complete satisfaction on all levels.I highly recommend Total Automotive for car repairs if you want excellent customer service, competent repair work, and convenience.

Comment: Ive taken our vehicles here a few times. They are friendly, provide good communication, and quick turn around on repairs. The free loaner car program is fantastic and very convenient. Its a big reason why I have patronized this shop.I have two complaints, mostly regarding their pricing and presentation. First, Ive found them to be on the expensive side. The most recent example is a repair they quoted at $1,100, which the Ford dealer quoted at $857 (and we all know the dealer is typically more expensive then an independent shop). Second, when they call with the repair proposal, they always present this massive lump sum that is not broken out by item and will include some add on services. In all fairness, they are always willing to talk through each line item of the proposal with me, but you have to be the one to initiate the conversation regarding the cost and the necessity of each repair/service recommendation, and then wait on the phone while they work on re-calculating the costs.Overall, I would say that I am happy with their service and would return, but just a few things to keep in mind.

I had to be to work, and no loaners were available (I have gotten several loaners in the past). They used my car, drove me to work, then drove my car back to have the repairs done. Most people will agree, that you should never ever shop for cars or repair services alone when youre a woman. Its stupid, but true.Ive heard it all, from extra upcharges for bringing my own part, to extra upcharges for leaving my car and having them work on it over the weekend (not even kidding), and my personal favorite, thats gonna be $1,600 little missy.I tried 6 different places before I found Total Automotive. They where extremely nice with Good social skills. They didnt talk down to me. They didnt try to pressure me into doing anything I wasnt comfortable with. Obviously, they give you suggestions bc they have to check everything, thats a given, but I felt welcomed and above all safe. I didnt feel like I had to be 110% on my guard bc they were straight forward, understanding and honest. The updating text messages were completely amazing, loved them. The digital estimates complete with pictures of my car to show proof, was absolutely impressive. I Dropped my car off and they even gave me a ride home! And picked me up in the morning to get my car! To be completely honest, I was a little nervous riding with a complete stranger, but both rides were pleasant and we had good appropriate conversations. Im so impressed with everything, it was so convenient and well orchestrated.So, not going to lie, I felt like this was all too good to be true and was extremely nervous about the price. I thought I was going to have to take out a high interest loan for all these free services. In the end, my car was done in one day, with pick up services for $98 out the door.After that, I went to Bob Evans in my car and had a victory omelet.No problems afterwards.

Most places do not make much money on a simple oil change and rely on “free inspections” to find anything wrong with your vehicle to make good money on parts and repairs. The gentleman that took care of me came back after the test drive and inspection and told me “hey that thing is in great shape, we looked over everything and shook it down, couldn’t find a thing wrong with it.....this is very rare! They fixed the problem right then! I trust their work and they do NOT try to talk you into work thats not needed. The waiting area was very clean. I will definitely continue with them for mine and my daughters car.

Comment: My 2007 F-150 would crank but not start. I have some mechanical experience so I narrowed it down to what I thought which was the fuel pump or fuel filter. I got the truck towed to TOTAL AUTOMOTIVE in Howell and they gave the truck a once over and attempted to start it. Guess what happened next the truck started. David informed me that since it started they could not complete a true diagnostic but gave me an idea of what the issue could be. It turns out it was my fuel pump driver module and David was spot on. I got great honest service and most important I got the problem fixed! I would recommend TOTAL AUTOMOTIVE to anyone in need of any reapairs or service!

I was tired of a dealerships shenanigans, high cost, and poor dragged-out turnaround. After having such a great experience my first time with Total Automotive, I recently had to bring my car in to have a service message that appeared checked out. Once again not disappointed one bit. Fast diagnosis, a call to completely explain the diagnosis process and issue, and one day turnaround. Truly customer focused, friendly, and the repair didnt break the bank. Comment: I had a great first time experience yesterday. I had a headlight out and a low tire light on on my Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn. Both lights were replaced for the price of one and my tires were checked for leaks and aired up. I was out in less than 30 minutes and spent less than $40! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I will definitely be using them again and will gladly recommend to friends and family.

Comment: I always cringe when something goes wrong with my vehicles, anyone would. It always came down to price, what it would cost to fix the problem. However I called Total Automotive when my van was leaking coolant to the point the engine was smoking. Joe was polite and was patient with me when I explained what I thought the problem was. He was able to give me a quote based on what I told him. I dropped off my van 30 mins before they closed and they were able to call me the following morning with what the actual problem was. Best part was they were able to fix my van within 12 hours after I dropped it off. One of the best and easiest experiences with fixing a vehicle. They have my business for now on!! Thanks guys!!

Comment: In my decades of driving and taking my vehicles to automotive shops in California and here in Michigan, Total Automotive is the best automotive shop I have dealt with bar none. Are they perfect? Probably not, but they are as close to a perfect automotive shop as youll get - my opinion only, of course. They are technically competent, honest, and quite easy to deal with. I actually get the feeling that they care. As much as is possible and appropriate, I take my vehicles to them for maintenance or repair, and I give them an unqualified recommendation, especially if you have an Honda or Subaru. Speaking as just a normal consumer, I recommend giving them an opportunity to work on your vehicle.

Comment: Total automotive is spelled GREAT customer service. How many autorepair shops offer you a loaner to say, do your brakes. You dont haveto call days or weeks ahead. You dont have to get there at 7am andhope the work gets done that day. They tell you the facts. What needsto be done now. What can wait if youre on a tight budget. I trust themand I have never had to come back because the job was done incorrectly.Beside, the free water, soda coffee, candy and chips arent bad.I even take an extra on once in a while, but dont tell them I confessed to that.

Comment: Total Automotive knows their stuff. I had a Check Engline Light surface; took it to a Subaru dealer. They told me I needed to replace the catalytic converters, a total of $2400. After reading a bit more online, I thought it might be the O2 censors, so I called up Total Automotive and asked them to do a CEL diagnostic. They were extremely helpful on the phone, explaining to me how they would check the O2 censors. After the diagnostic was completed, they informed me that I actually had a leaky intake manifold gasket which was causing the sensors (my car has 5 of them!) to read crazy and throw the light. They repaired it. Fixed my problem, no more light. They even called to check-in a few days after they fixed the gasket. Really great people who care about what theyre doing.

I am the daughter of a mechanical engineering technician of 30 years, and I get very frustrated when people try to take me for ignorant by the way they speak to me or by trying to sell me things like blinker fluid, or, as I experienced once at BIG RAYs, a transmission flush, because (cue guy unenthusiastically holding up an oil pan) these are the metal shavings in your oil pan. Really. Thats not my oil pan, and no they arent. And Im full on blinker fluid sweetheart but thanks. (yes, some kid who worked there called me sweetheart and acted annoyed when I seemed to know more about cars than he did...) Im not a car genius, because I personally dont work on them everyday, but Im not completely ignorant either, and I do know my own car for the mostpart. I know my car has a few issues, and I know they arent deadly. I also know I dont have extra money to fix things that arent necessary. Total Automotive keeps this in mind. I have been there several times. They dont assume I know everything, but they are also respectful, personal and polite when they do explain things. They monitor your feedback, body language and responses and actually listen to what you have to say. Total automotive does a thorough job, above and beyond what is required for just the job, and they do it at a reasonable price. They give you an assessment and printout of what is needed in the future, and let you know what is vital for safety, and what just needs to be watched out for and addressed sometime in the near future, without being pushy or trying to make a sale. They are a company that is made up of individuals that speak for themselves. *I should note that this review was done based on previous ownership. I have not had much need for interaction with the company the past year so I cannot speak for the new changes that may have occurred, but I do hope that they continue to provide the quality service they have previously. I do know the one time I was in there in the past year, while I am all for positive change, a few of the changes sent up small red flags and a slight shift from person and community centered quality to a whiff of a corporate business agenda. I desperately hope this was a fluke transition moment that wont happen again, because Im finally happy with an auto shop, but we shall see.*

The tow truck driver that was dispatched highly recommended Total Automotive, so not being from the area I decided to have my car taken there. I was amazed at their service, they actually took the time to read the information that the tow truck driver gave them.
