Comment: My conversation began with a representative name Doug to service a Ford 150 truck. I had to place my trust in Doug and received a listing of the repairs needed. After reading this listing, I noticed some repairs were not needed or discussed. This was very concerning to me and wary. The sensors were the only thing needed attention, then, it became the ball joints. That was a necessary repair as I was told, however, the lower ball joints were never mentioned only the upper ones. This repair came later after popping sounds and noise was discovered after payment was secured and truck picked up.The truck was brought back in, and the mechanic Aaron spoke with me and described the problem (lower ball joints) along with additional payments.My granddaughter has picked the truck up and has assured me there are no sounds and it runs as it did when first brought into your repair shop.I reside in Texarkana, Texas, so, my faith was placed into your company.I would like to thank Aaron for explaining the situation and making sure the truck is safe for my granddaughter to drive. Aaron sounds like a trustworthy individual and capable of being up front with women especially when their vehicles need servicing.

Comment: A great auto shop in the Pontiac / Waterford area.John, Aaron, & the rest of this team came recommended to me by family. I tend to do some of my own mechanical work and some to the dealership but dealership prices are always high. I was having suspension work done and did not have the time, tools, or resources to do this job properly so I turned to Great Lakes Auto.I am glad I did.They were very honest and forward with me about the quote and labor. They test drove before and after to test everything which was great. I wasnt a huge fan of the parts they offered but they were willing to order some other ones I preferred and still did the work for me. Car drives great now.They are a bit pricey but better than the dealership and overall better quality work. You get what you pay for people.Recommended.

Comment: I recently traveled to Auburn Hills from 200 miles away. When I arrived, my vehicle started to act up. This was a Friday afternoon. I was far away from home, with a broken vehicle. Lynn at Great Lakes Auto provided me with a shuttle ride to my hotel a couple miles away and was able to accommodate all of my luggage I was traveling with. Monday morning Great Lakes Auto Repair performed diagnostics on my vehicle and it turned out my transmission went out. They ordered a replacement that day, and by Friday afternoon I received a call that my vehicle was done. Payment was easy online. I think cost was ok. All of the employees were professional, knowledgeable, and great to work with! Huge shoutout to Aaron for helping me navigate the process, and again to Lynn for a smooth ride to my hotel. I do recommend GLAR if you need work done!

Comment: Bare with me this may be long winded.So I was having issues whit my car starting when it wanted to and smoking on occasion. I took it to shop 1(I have been going there for 10+ years) and they said everything checked out and that it may be an electrical issue. I brought it here and they basically said shop 1 was wrong. So this started my trust issues and me being a stress case for them. I gave them the go ahead bc what else am I going to do. Thus far she has been running great and I am glad I just went with it. They were patient and explained everything and as it stands I will be back. So thank you guys so much for that.Couple of things because I saw complaints about these issues. 1: they do charge for diagnostic tests. Considering shop 1 ran diagnostic tests and failed to fix the problem, the cost was worth it. 2: the cost. While my fix was expensive I dont necessarily think they are expensive, this is just the cost of things now, and like I said it was worth it.

Comment: I took my van to the shop for the first time yesterday. Our regular mechanic was unable to clear a code and therefore couldnt complete the work that I needed done. So after a few phone calls, I found Great Lakes Auto Repair. They were polite and super accommodating when I made my appointment. Their quote was also right in line with my regular mechanic. So they have great prices! Come time for my appointment. I was a few minutes late and they were super gracious. Even though they were insanely busy, they still managed to get my van in and out within an hour and a half while I waited. If I didnt already have a regular mechanic, this shop would be my choice! While I was there I also noticed a sign in their lobby. All their work is guaranteed for TWO YEARS!!!! If that doesnt show that they dont take their jobs lightly and truly stand behind their work I dont know what does!?!? If I ever have to stray from my usual shop again this is where I will go.

My car did end up having some issues that it had to stay there longer than anticipated, but John made sure to keep contact and up to date with what was going on with my vehicle, always being polite and clear with what was happening. Comment: I took my son’s truck in, they quickly inspected it and found that I needed an engine replacement. I have Car Shield which I began to see may not have been the best decision for extended warranties. John at the shop was diligent in contacting Car Shield more than multiple times to make sure that they had everything that was needed for the claim; even after they would not respond to him or say that they didn’t receive documents. My claim was approved 2 months later, they replace the engine that week and my son is safely back on the road.

Comment: I took my car to these wonderful mechanics after having my car in and out of another shop for 2 weeks and it just getting worse. After spending 2 weeks without my car due to the other shop my car stalled while idling on my way home. The next morning I called great lakes auto since I was able to get my car home the night before and explained what had been replaced and all the issues that followed the other shops repairs. I explained the car issues and they advised me to see if the car is still giving issues as 1 time of stalling out could be a fluke. My car wouldnt even start. After getting my car started I took it in and these great guys were so friendly upon arrival. Took notes on what had been done and what the car was doing now. They called to keep me informed every step of the way and made me feel good about my car being at their shop. They were great and my car runs better now than it did before hand. They ended up having to replace the o2 sensor and 2 fuel injectors. I was shocked that the other shop never caught this issue but thankful the guys at great lakes auto were so capable that they found the issue and were able to execute the repairs in a timely fashion. I will definitely take my car back there.

He got a tech to drive my car right away and pull it in to confirm the issue, and was on the way to work. I walked in after noon, he had me going again with New ball joints, wheel alignment, and stabilizer BY 5 PM. . . . Very Pleased! But more than the great service from John and his team, I loved the fact that I NEVER knew that he was the owner. The staff is super friendly and as a woman I have never felt as though anyone is trying to pull the wool over my eyes. Comment: Took my car to GLA at the referral of a close friend because my brakes lost all power. I had known for about two months that I had a small leak in my front passenger side brake line, being the son of a former mechanic I had bought parts and planned on doing the work myself. However, weather and timing were not on my side. Took my car in and Matt and John took a look at it and found that my master cylinder had also went bad. They replaced the cylinder and found that I was right about the leak in the front passenger line, however Matt was pretty sure that the increased pressure from the new cylinder caused the leak. They replaced the line as well and now my car stops better than when I bought it.They did it at a reasonable price too, because I know that the same job at a dealership could have been $900-1000. Ill definitely be seeing them in the future.
