They helped facilitate my vehicle on-site while waiting for parts..unfortunately parts for my vehicle were not available, i was refunded and Would recommend them for anyone who needs expert diagnostic skills.

They also have a loaner car program which has saved me a tremendous amount of hassle in the rare instances when a replacement part is delayed for my old truck.Previous Post:I recently had my 15+ year-old Dodge Ram 1500 serviced during this Covid crisis. Ervines Auto Repair was referred to me as a highly professional auto repair service in the Grand Rapids metro area that treats customers with honesty and integrity. Consistent with their reputation, the service I received was prompt and professional. The problem that prompted me to seek their help was fixed that day. They even provided me a free loaner car to use in the interim. I will certainly seek their assistance for any future service needs for my truck. The most recent time they provided us with a list of repairs they suggested for our 2009 Prius. We were able to overview and decide what we could afford at the time to do and what was most needed. We never felt pressured or treated negatively that we couldnt do all the repairs at this time. It was so refreshing! We needed a new part for our trunk, they were able to find a used one they could paint match to our car to save us some funds and it looks perfect! We will continue to use them as our shop for both our full electric car and hybrid!

Megan, Steve, and the crew helped me come to terms with a situation where it wasnt really worth the repairs needed to fix my vehicle. They gave me a myriad of options and lots of professional advice, but I never felt pressured one way or the other to make the decision they deemed best. Ervines left it up to me to make the best decision for my situation. They also were incredibly kind and gave me a couple days to decide and let me use their loaner car so I was able to get to work. I was treated so well by everyone that I highly recommend this shop to anyone who needs fair and honest advice about what needs to be done to their car with repairs. Unfortunately for me, I didnt get beyond the diagnostic part of service as it was better off to let my 2012 Mazda CX-9 go without a new engine, but I would go back to them with any other vehicle. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Comment: I had a serious issue with my exhaust system that required an accurate diagnosis and a very precise solution. I wouldn’t trust anyone but Ervine’s to do such high level work on my Prius! They got to the bottom of the issue, solved it and provided a loaner car for the full duration of the service. I also know the price would be considerably higher had I gone to a dealership to have this work done. Well done Ervine’s!

We found the immediate remedy, got it fixed and I havent had any issues since. Im so happy I went with Ervines. We might not be the cheapest, but we are one of the best. Steve is a great mechanic, a great person and is completely honest. I know he cares about the customers bottom line and I will be a return customer.

I had to get my Black 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe fixed right away (a month or two back) and they fit me in as soon as they could. I needed a loaner vehicle while they fixed mine which was a serious life saver since I have 3 small children. The Tahoe was a gift but soon turned into the most stressful headache.My husband and I had taken my vehicle to a different auto repair shop before going to Ervine’s Auto Repair. They fixed a few things but they weren’t able to fix one of our major concern. Which was an excessive amount of smoke from the exhaust; which happened anytime I turned on the Tahoe whether we frequently used it or it was sitting for a few days. That auto shop recommended an engine swap or rebuild as well and they would outsource it to a third party; needless to say we didn’t go with that.Anyways Ervine’s Auto Repair were so helpful and understanding. The day I was supposed to drop off my vehicle to get it inspected, my Tahoe wouldn’t turn over at all. I called them and Megan answered, she said for me to worry and that they would keep the loaner car set aside me and to get there whenever I could.Every step of the way Steve or Megan would explain what their guys did during the inspections and what was found. They take pictures of everything they find that could be of concern and the reasons why. As well as of the severity of getting it fixed right away or not. I never felt pressure to get more done than what was necessary at all, my Tahoe just needed quite a bit done.Ervine’s Auto Repair dismissed the idea of replacing the engine since when they test drove it; it ran very smoothly even though the mileage was on the higher end. They did a testing/analysis, an air conditioning service, power steering fluid service, brake fluid service, BG engine performance restoration for oil usage/high mileage engines, synthetic oil change/maintenance, transmission fluid service.They ended up removing and replacing the driver side valve cover, as well as the left engine motor mount, removing and replacing engine air filter. They also inspected the A/C system since I was concerned why the A/C wasn’t working. They found and showed me pictures of the 3 leaks in the rear lines. They gave me an option of doing a block off kit for the rear A/C lines though we opted for to just remove and replace the rear A/C lines in the end.I am truly grateful for Ervine’s Auto Shop. They truly took what was an absolute stressful headache and fixed it to where we needed it to be safe for my family. Again Megan and Steve were absolutely amazing and were welcoming. They answered all my silly questions/concerns every step of the way and explained everything plainly and honestly. Another plus would be that they provide financing through their website, which is nice if you can’t pay for everything out of pocket.

Earlier this summer I called about an electrical problem for my daughters Jeep Commander and needed it fixed before she had to return to college. No other shop could get it in right away but Ervines said they would make it work. Instead of having to arrange for a ride home, one of the owners drove me back after dropping it off. The problem was extremely difficult to find, having had to remove the dash, seats and much the carpet. But they kept me informed every step of the way, including photos. It was taking much longer than anyone expected and I could tell it was putting a crunch on their schedule, yet they kept on it and finally fixed the issue. The hours well exceeded what they quoted and I was sincerely worried about the bill - but they held to their quoted price. They have certainly earned my business from here on out!

Comment: Preface: If youre looking at shops solely based on price, Ervines might not be the right fit for you.Took my 2012 Subaru here on 8.15 to have some work done. Had them do some diagnostics on my front & rear brakes. Turned out I needed quite some work done to my car that I wouldve had never known about myself. Kudos to Steve for his professionalism, non-biased opinions/recommendations, and all-around customer service. I really like how they emailed me a detailed description of their diagnostics (and specific breakdowns) with pictures and a paragraph description written at a reading level anyone can understand (for those who are not car-proficient like myself). Why I put this review at 4/5 stars is the price. I did noticed they charged me WAY more than some other shops or buying rotors myself from a parts store. I was a little discouraged by the total end price, but know that my car was well-taken care of and have the re-assurance I wont need to re-service what I had done for a while.Would highly recommend if you want a transparent shop with excellent customer service and professionals who actually know how to handle and service your car. If price is your primary concern, I might recommend looking elsewhere, but the team at Ervines was 100% transparent in letting me know theyre costs and reasoning behind them.

Eric is extremely informative and broke down everything simply for a non mechanically inclined person that is myself. He also is very caring about you, your vehicle and your safety. Comment: So Im the guy that brings in a repair that brings the response thats interesting . Long story short, had some work done spring of 22, fall of 22, and 6/23. For an unknown reason some of the work failed. When I was given a quote for my 6/23 repairs, they listed off what needed to be done followed by that will be warrantied.Its really nice not to have to bring in; proof of work done, receipts, give explanations, etc. to receive a warranty. I have a 2015 Honda Pilot I purchased used, I have 4 friends with Pilots they all love them, why do I have the interesting one

You can talk to someone in person on the phone but they also Send you emails and text. I filled out a short form online for a scheduled appointment. The following business day I received and email and text with The confirmation. I lived a short distance away and didnt have a ride home and they gave me a ride home. After several hours I received the email with the link to a page that explained what was wrong and what needed to be fixed. All I had to do was check the boxes of what I wanted done and they did it. Comment: After a bad experience at another auto shop, I took my Honda CR-V to Ervines Auto Repair. When I first called, I was warmly greeted by Megan. I was encouraged by the fact that she took the time to truly listen to what was going on with my car. She worked me into their schedule quickly, and assured me that her family would properly diagnose and fix my car. I was told by another auto shop that day that I needed a transmission rebuild. There were many red flags at the other auto shop, and I wanted another opinion. I dropped my car off at the end of business on Monday, and got a call from Bruce on Tuesday morning letting me know that they diagnosed the problem. I needed an oil change. Yes, you read that right - An oil change. I was told by another auto shop that I needed a new transmission. Ervines knew that. After looking at my vehicle, they determined that there was nothing wrong with my transmission. I was absolutely blown away! They did a full inspection of my car and gave me recommendations about other maintenance that was due. They have a portal in which they can share photos with you, which was really nice. We authorized them to do several other repairs while it was in the shop. Ervines fixed the problem I was experiencing with my car (caused by low oil) and made sure everything else was in good working order. I inquired about a repair and by 7:30 am, the next morning I had a quote back from Eric that was 1/6 the cost that the dealership quoted. Eric, Megan, and Jamie were awesome to work with! I had the services they suggested , and knew were needed. They offered a loaner car, which was helpful. A year later, I notices a weird noise from a rear wheel, and asked them to look at it. They took the car into their shop the same day, provided transportation, and had the work done by the end of the day. I purchased a used car several years ago and when it had some issues, I received a reference to Ervine’s from a friend, as well as finding them as “recommended” on a NPR Car Talk Reddit thread. I took my vehicle there and never looked back! THEY ARE AMAZING!If you need any recommendation on a honest mechanic, how about this!... Near the end of that used vehicle, it developed an engine issue. The Ervines’ mechanics were so honest, they gave me three best options:1). Repair what we can see @ ‘estimate’ but there could be additional unknown repairs once we open the engine2). Replace the engine all together @ ‘estimate’3). If you can afford it... buy a new/different vehicleCan you imagine a more honest repair shop; one that has that much integrity? They were literally so honest with me, they gave me legitimate advice that could cause me to purchase a brand new vehicle that would ultimately end my consumer-consistently with them... at least for several years! To top it off, they even offered their free loaner to me, for days, while I thought about my options!I did end up buying a new Camry. I love it and honestly got advice from Ervines on what to look for when purchasing a new car. It isn’t due for any repairs at this time, and probably won’t for a while, but I know where I’ll be taking it when it does!

Comment: To be fair, you can get your car services and repairs anywhere and generally speaking it will be taken care of. However, Ervine has a passion and proactive approach to the job that impressed me. They not only fixed my problem, but they also identified other issues or potential issues and made very helpful suggestions for future repairs. While a typical shop would present this to a customer verbally with limited explanation, Ervine provides a thorough online report of your vehicle which incorporates explanations, notes, pictures, videos of their findings. I can’t stress enough how impressive it was to see the report – it was like a college research project on your vehicle; for example ,you don’t get told verbally a wheel is squeaking, you get an explanation, a suspected root cause, and video of your actual wheel spinning so you can see and hear for yourself. They were thorough, quick, and very responsive with my questions and thoughts. I brought my vehicle there for a specific issue, but within 3 hours as a bonus, I received this very thorough report identifying overall state of affairs for the vehicle as a whole. This was immediately followed up with a call from Bruce to go over his findings and answer questions. As the work was being done, Bruce kept me informed on how it looked and the different possibility that I could expect (long story, but there was a condition on the vehicle that if process did or did not work would greatly affect the price –Bruce was successful at it and saved me money).I could explain more, but would be too wordy. The point I wanted to make is that Ervine was a great experience for me. It’s a mom/pop feel with very experienced technicians. Very thorough, very honest, very passionate. They treated my vehicle as it was their own. With the free benefit of a loaner vehicle, the experience was great and I will be back again; because they are a great fair and honest company that I trust. Ervine was great and they deserve your consideration next time you have a vehicle issue needing fixing.

Comment: I had some works done at Ervines a few years back on my ford focus. They did a great job but I wouldnt say its inexpensive. I recently tried to have them diagonostic the griding noise on my ford hybrid C-max but they wanted to charge me $147.00. Of course, I declined the service and called around and found a few autoshops that would do it for $50. I ended up taking it to Christian brothers automotive and they found the source of noises, which was the issue with our transmission. This autoshop then provided extensive documents stating this probblem is covered by ford warranty. Its currently sitting at a ford shop waiting for parts. Overall the whole process is only costing me $50. I have no doubt of Ervines comptency but I am not sure they would have sent me to the ford dealer to have my problem fixed for free.I had work done for my focus under my husbands name. Comment: I work a lot and am on-call 24/7 several days at a time. So I needed a place that could have a loaner car for me when I dropped off my car for repair. After doing a google search and some Facebook recommendations, I came across Ervines. The website has a place to request a loaner car and 2 choices of days you would like. I automatically assumed I wouldnt hear anything back until Monday (I did this on a Sunday evening) But to my surprise, I got a response an hour later saying Monday morning would be just fine. Wow!Monday morning I arrived and was greeted by very friendly staff and they had my loaner car warmed up and ready for me. All of the diagnostics and recommendations are easily seen through the website, complete with pictures and the ability to agree or deny a service which also includes the price. With my busy work day, this technology is amazing and very convenient! Bruce even called me and explained to me what he found and was very helpful. He called me Tuesday morning and told me my car was ready. 24 hours. Thats it. Other places told me they couldnt even get me in for a week at the earliest. You have definitely earned my business! Comment: After a couple of less than stellar experiences at another shop (currently behind OReily Auto Parts on 28th St by 131) after their ownership changed I thought Id give Ervines a try. The customer service, communication, quality of work and speed at which my vehicle was repaired were outstanding. Price for the repair was in line with what I expected. The one thing I did not care for was the diagnostic fee is not waived/reduced if you have the vehicle repaired there. I understand not wanting to diagnose issues only to have owners go elsewhere. There is value in your knowledge and time that shouldnt be given away for free. On the flip side, The shop I used to go to would provide free estimates/diagnoses. After the ownership changed Ive received multiple misdiagnosed problems from them. So I guess you get what you pay for in some sense. I would go back to Ervines for future repairs.

I worked with Bruce, whose son actually recommended the shop to me.Im a shade tree mechanic - I do basic work on my car during the warm months and have done as much as change the timing belt on my Focus.However, during the cold months of the year, I dont have a garage in Grand Rapids to do this kind of work (I did when I lived in the Detroit area and I miss those days dearly). When my accessory tensioner broke in January, I didnt want to force myself to work on the car with freezing cold fingers in my parking lot.Enter Ervines: I had my car towed there and they did all of the work. Bruce was very up-front and friendly about everything and I couldnt be happier with the results. He found a few other issues with the car (bad water pump - ugh!) and replaced a tie rod end as well. Even though my car was lowered, Bruce made an exception to their policy on modified cars and performed an alignment as best he could anyway. The car doesnt handle the way it should, but thats my fault since the camber isnt set correctly.My only grudge is a personal one since Im spoiled and normally fix my own cars: this was an expensive trip. I spent $900 when all was said and done. I could have done the work myself for $400 with OEM brand parts. NAPA parts arent cheap to begin with and when you throw labor on top of that, this definitely isnt a cheap shop to take your car to.But you get what you pay for, and I paid a premium. Highly recommended if you want car repair work and maintenance done right.

I needed a loaner both days they had my car and everything was ready as soon as I got there right at 8a so didnt really slow me down. I brought a used car to them for inspection and he dutifully pointed out that while the car was otherwise in great condition, there were three anomalies that when combined was a potential systematic failure that could have cost me upwards of $3,000 to $4,000 extra to repair on my own if I were to purchase this car. Comment: A couple of years ago my hybrid car had problems. Unfortunately not many businesses are capable of fixing hybrid cars. I could have taken it to a dealer, but I knew that would be more expensive than if I found a business that handled hybrid auto repairs. I looked around and decided to try Ervines. They fixed my car and they provided me with a loaner car while my car was being fixed. This is all well and good, but what really impressed me is how much they know about hybrid vehicles. I think they have more knowledge of how hybrids work than mechanics at dealerships. At least as far as Im concerned thats true. Also the mechanic who worked on my car said he enjoyed working on it. Now thats someone who I would trust to fix my car. Knowing how well they took care of my hybrid car, Ive taken a non-hybrid vehicle in as well. Same great results.Another great aspect of Ervines is the customer service. Besides always being pleasant, one time I called after hours and I got to speak with someone. That might not be typical, but it still impressed me.

Comment: I have had 3 of our older model vehicles repaired there. The mechanics have been very good at explaining or showing the problem and worked with me to get the desired repair. I appreciate that they gave some cost savings options, with perhaps less quality parts but since I have older, nearer end of life vehicles, that is all I really needed. Part of what I love the best is the availability of a free loaner vehicle while mine was being repaired. That, along with good reviews is what drew us to try them in the first place.

Comment: I cannot say enough about the honesty and quality of the entire operation at Ervines. They are honest and up front about what you need and what it takes to fix it properly. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The loaner car program is awesome as most cannot afford to be without transportation while their vehicle is being repaired. I highly recommend them. They will not recommend unnecessary repairs just to pad the bill like some other shops are known to do. It is hard to find trustworthy mechanics. Look no further than Ervines. We appreciated the fact that Bruce, the technician, talked to us in plain English terms and took the time to go over the needed repairs with us. Comment: I discovered Ervines after moving to Wyoming and needing to find a place I liked and trusted as much as the shop I used on the extreme north side of Grand Rapids. Online feedback and a neighbor sent me to Ervines and they were exactly what I was looking for. They treat me like a valued customer, explain very clearly what needs to be done (and why) when I bring it in, present me with options, give me a logical recommendation based on those options, and provide a free loaner car if I need it. When my old battery died recently, the owner came to my house and gave me a jump so I could get it to the shop without a towing charge. I cant imagine what else could be asked for. Nobody likes having to bring their car to an auto repair shop and having to spend the money to fix whatever the problem might be, but the folks at Ervines make it as painless as possible. My only tiny wish would be for coffee thats not decaf ;)

Comment: My car needed a lot of work and being relatively new to the area, I had to rely on online reviews. Ervines got great feedback, so I made an appointment through their website. I was contacted almost immediately and scheduled very quickly. The repairs took a few days, but with the free loaner it was no big deal. They explained everything to me, helped me prioritize which repairs to do first, and Jamie even entertained my 5-year-old while I spent 10 minutes on the phone with my bank to get my payment to go through. I may have been able to find someplace a little cheaper, but you cant pay for the excellent customer service at Ervines. The lobby is clean, has fresh coffee, and is very professional. As a woman Ive been intimidated going into car shops but I never felt that way at Ervines. Ill definitely be returning.

They are honest and competitive.We were once told by a dealer that the problem with our vehicle was not one that had a recall on it and they would not do the recall. We did not tell Ervines about that but they are up on things and checked into it for us. They called a dealer and found that our vehicle was under the recall. When we picked up the vehicle they made arrangements for it to be repaired. We went directly to have it repaired. They go the extra mile.They are always friendly and explain the problems very well.We also love the loaner cars!

They have a loaner car available and if it isnt available they give me a ride back to work and come pick me up when it is finished.Everyone is very knowledgeable, professional and personable. I am impressed with the quality work and they take time to check other maintenance/vital parts that may need to be fixed. Comment: After the mechanic that I was using (who I was very happy with) moved far enough out of town to no longer be convenient, I was in despair of finding another mechanic of that quality.The first time I needed Ervines was when I was replacing the battery in my Forester and apparently (despite checking twice) connected it backwards and fried a few things. It was a Sunday afternoon and after picking Ervines because of the great reviews (and it also didnt hurt that they are about 1/2 mile from my office!) I called, expecting to leave a message for a callback. Imagine my surprise when a human being (the fantastic Jamie) answered the phone on the 2nd ring! I had my car towed over, Eric called me early Monday morning with the estimate, and I had the car back by lunchtime.That was over a year ago, and Ive used Ervines a number of times since then both for my Forester and my wifes Saturn, and Ive been VERY pleased every time.Every time I call, Jamie makes me feel like Im the most important customer they have, and as other reviews have mentioned, Ervines does NOT try to tack on extra services that you dont need to inflate the bill.

Comment: Since I recently moved to the Grand Rapids area I had to find a new mechanic, and Ervines was the third, and last, place I will take my cars to. I went there based on the overwhelmingly positive review, but Ervines was also the only place that passed my own little quality control test. I take my 07 Xterra, which is in great shape, in for an oil change and ask the mechanic to look over the rest of the vehicle to see if anything else needed to be taken care of. Out of the three, Ervines was not only the first shop to comment on what great shape my vehicle is in, but they were the only one to not artificially create services my vehicle didnt need. An added bonus, they reminded me of the upcoming preventive maintenance my car would need. As a result, I dont think Ill need to look for another mechanic as long as I live in the Grand Rapids area.

Comment: Ervines has been great - Ive been going to them for about 2 years. I drive a 2004 Honda Civic with almost 150,000 and its running great. I have Ervines to thank for that. They encourage (never forcefully) regular maintenance. If I have any questions, they answer them without making me feel dumb or that they are taking advantage of me. They explain things in detail. Theyve been so helpful - theyve even showed me how to do silly things like check the air pressure in my tires. They truly care.There are two reasons why I choose Ervines over other places:#1) Free Car Rental - this was very convenient when I was moving to Yellowstone and had $1000 + in maintenance done (things that shouldve be done at 100,000 miles).#2) Their Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter Specials - they always have a seasonal special. It includes an oil change and they thoroughly check out your car. Its $40, which is a pricey oil change BUT it comes with a detailed list ranking from 1 to 10 the things your car needs the most.

Checking the Google reviews, Ervines had over 40 AWESOME customer reviews. We thought we would give them a try, and were thrilled to say the reviewers didnt lie. From the minute I stepped in, Jamies (the office manager) helpful personality put me at ease. We received an estimate for service that was almost half what was quoted at the dealership. The service was performed the next day and the car was ready to roll that afternoon. Additional work will be needed on the car and Eric has taken a great amount of time with us explaining things.
